CoDeLab is a research and learning laboratory at Carnegie Mellon Architecture exploring critical questions and creative opportunities at the nexus of design, computation, and the built environment. It functions as a “lab of labs” with members leading research groups and projects with autonomy, an experimental disposition, and a shared emphasis on critical technical practice.
Faculty and students collaborate on subjects including architectural robotics, artificial intelligence, digital heritage, generative fabrication, computational structural design, tangible interaction, as well as historical and sociotechnical questions concerning the interplay of technology and design.
CoDeLab is located in a unique double height space in the historic Margaret Morrison Building (MMCH 403), and is the home of the Master of Science and PhD programs in Computational Design. The CoDeLab community includes about forty graduate students, five full-time faculty, and a number of affiliate faculty, visiting scholars, and external collaborators.
Do you want to collaborate with CodeLab faculty or students? Consider applying to a CodeLab faculty grant. Joint projects and collaborations between CD faculty and faculty and students in other CM-A and CM-U programs—and beyond—are welcome.
CodeLab faculty collaborates with students and faculty across the CMU campus and beyond, including industry and government partners. Contact us here.
