Situated Computation and Culture
Vernelle A. A. Noel
Computer-aided design (CAD) software systems are cultural artifacts which have re-structured the work and lived experience of architects, engineers, and other designers. The Experimental Archaeology of CAD research group explores these through an innovative methodological repertoire combining historical research with software reconstruction, emulation, and speculation. Combining critical-historical reflection and hands-on prototyping, the project illuminates conceptual, visual, and sensual aspects of these systems — and instigates new ideas that help us to re-imagine their future.
